The PI15011 and PI15016 are highly integrated, low-power, analog monitoring and control solution with a comprehensive set of integrated TEC, Buck and Inverting DC-DC regulators. A wide variety of optical transceiver controller applications are supported without need of external circuitry, thereby minimizing cost and PCB area.
The PI15011 is optimized for PON OLT and other EAM based modules. It has a 12-bit current output digital-to-analog converter (IDAC) for the laser bias current with the output power feedback loop. provided from the MPD current to a TIA and 12-bit, 250KSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The IDAC supports a full-scale output range of 150mA with very low headroom. The buck dc-dc is used to supply the IDAC supply voltage and is programmable to optimize power dissipation.
The EAM bias is supplied through a 12-bit negative voltage output DAC (VDAC). Current from this DAC can be monitored through the ADC. The VDAC is capable or sourcing and sinking up to 60mA. The inverting dc-dc converter is used to supply this VDAC.
A second IDAC can supply up to 250mA in applications that require SOA bias.
The ADC and incorporate a low-latency window comparator, making it suitable solutions for monitor photo diode (MPD), received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and loss-of- signal (LOS) detection. The ADC is also capable of measuring the voltage at the IDAC pins as well as the current being sourced or sunk by the VDACs, thus enabling power monitoring of these outputs.
An integrated TEC controller is provided with digital set-point and PID control along with monitor and alarm functions.
The PI15016 includes all the features of the PI15011 but also adds support for dual SOA’s and dual LD/EAM modules through additional IDACs and VDACs. Two of the IDACs can support 250mA for SOA bias.
